About us

Tobacco Free Mass advocates for legislation, policies and programs that counteract the tobacco industry’s impact on the people of Massachusetts, focusing on those most affected by tobacco use and its harms. We work to increase awareness of tobacco issues, help tobacco and nicotine users quit, prevent young people from starting, and ensure that no one is exposed to secondhand smoke or e-cigarette aerosol.

We are an independent coalition supported by our members and sponsors.  We advocate for funding and policies that support tobacco prevention and cessation and the reduction of exposure to secondhand smoke. Originally known as The Coalition for a Healthy Future, Tobacco Free Mass was formed in 1991 to pass a ballot measure that raised the state’s tobacco excise tax and established the Commonwealth's tobacco control program.

The Coalition continues to advocate for funding and policies to reduce death and disease caused by tobacco use. Tobacco Free Mass carries out its mission with the help of more than fifty member organizations and with dedicated partners and advocates from across the Commonwealth.

We work for the day when no person in the Commonwealth is addicted to nicotine or impacted by the harmful effects of tobacco use on their health and wellbeing.
